The Clinical Nurse – Infection Prevention & Control plays a vital role in promoting the highest standards of patient care and staff safety. Working as part of a dedicated Infection Control team, you’ll support the implementation of the hospital’s infection prevention and control program, provide expert advice and education to staff, and champion best practice across all areas of clinical care. The Position
Acts as a resource for all hospital personnel in matters pertaining to infection control and provide recommendations for improvement in all departments.
Responsible for the identification and introduction of risk management strategies related to infection control to reduce possible risks to patients and caregivers accessing the hospital.
Assists with the caregiver health programs by providing appropriate screening and vaccination to all caregivers and ensure the maintenance of such records.
Maintains and assists with safe work practice in relation to infection control in collaboration with Work, Health & Safety.
Assists with the surveillance program of hospital acquired infections.
Ensures appropriate infection control standards are practiced and implemented in the area of environmental and hotel service in collaboration with the respective Caregivers.
Demonstrates positive role modelling and leadership as outlined in the SJGHC Leadership Profile.
Demonstrates both clinical and administrative leadership through effective communication, interpersonal skills, change management ability and the development of a high-performance team that exhibits a culture of professional accountability and quality service.
Assists in the implementation of the Nursing & Midwifery Standards of Excellence at a Ward / Department level.
Engages caregivers to ensure the efficient and effective management of all areas of responsibility.
Promotes and maintains collaborative relationships with accredited Medical Practitioners.
Attends relevant training sessions offered by SJGHC. Recognises the necessity to continually develop skills and acquire additional knowledge appropriate to the position.
All other reasonable duties as directed by Manager / Supervisor.
Position Requirements
You will be a Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration, bringing strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills to the role. You will demonstrate a commitment to quality improvement and a sound understanding of the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards, ensuring excellence in patient care and safety.
You will have the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team and possess sound knowledge of relevant legislation and professional standards, including the Nurses Act, Code of Conduct, Occupational Safety and Health, and Equal Employment Opportunity principles. An understanding of the epidemiology of hospital-acquired infections is essential, along with a current Immunisation Certificate or a willingness to obtain one within six months of commencing employment.

Salary : $104,903 to $110,954 pro rata, plus 12% superannuation
