Base pay range

A$96,712.00 / yr - A$110,752.00 / yr

About The Position

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Child Health Nurse to provide specialist child health services to children and their families who are clients of Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service. The Child Health Nurse works with a multidisciplinary team to provide evidence‑based child health services to children including child health assessments, immunisations and developmental screening. This includes scheduled child health screening, care coordination of children requiring child development and / or specialist paediatric services, implementation of child immunisation programs, health promotion programs addressing priority health issues, and supporting skill development in the area of child health for the DYHS clinic staff.

This is a Permanent Full‑time vacancy and the Work Hours (FTE) is flexible for negotiation.

Key Duties

  • Delivering culturally sensitive child health care, conducting evidence‑based assessments and screenings, identifying high‑risk children, administering developmental assessments, ensuring immunisation compliance, and supporting staff in child health assessments.
  • The role involves fostering preventative care and early intervention, offering guidance to families, and facilitating effective stakeholder management and teamwork.
  • Responsibilities also include client education, maintaining clinical standards, participating in quality improvement initiatives, and liaising with medical teams and community services.
  • Upholding organisational values such as cultural integrity and professionalism, maintaining confidentiality, and adhering to Organisation's quality improvement and safety protocols.
  • The position requires flexibility in fulfilling additional assigned duties from the line manager.

  • Essential Criteria

  • Australian unrestricted working rights.
  • Current Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Registered Nurse and / or Midwife.
  • Post‑graduate qualification in Child Health.
  • Expert knowledge of the WA Immunisation Schedule in relation to childhood immunisations.
  • Working knowledge of Child Health and an understanding of current practices, theories and values.
  • Knowledge of child development and how it relates to Aboriginal children in Western Australia.
  • Understanding of scope of practice in line with relevant state board.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a multidisciplinary team with Aboriginal clients and staff.
  • Experience in keeping detailed, confidential and accurate records by hard copy and electronic means.
  • A valid National Police Clearance, Working with Children Check and WA Driver's licence.
  • Desirable

  • Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander descent.
  • Previous experience working within an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation.
  • Significant experience in community‑based child health.
  • Experience in mentoring and assessing.
  • Post‑graduate qualification in Child Health plus minimum 12 months experience working in the clinical area.
