We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the development and integration of the CL1 Biological Computer, uniting hardware, software, and neuroscience into a high-performance system. This role requires deep expertise in coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams, managing multiple concurrent projects, and maintaining clear, up-to-date documentation.

The ideal candidate will be highly organised, comfortable with uncertainty, and skilled at structuring complex technical information for both engineering and leadership audiences. Hands-on with collaborative tools and project tracking systems, they will ensure visibility, accountability, and alignment across teams, while supporting leadership with portfolio-level reporting, metrics, and dashboards to drive clarity, efficiency, and strategic progress.

You Have

  • Deep expertise in integrating software and hardware engineering components.
  • Proven ability to track multiple projects and keep documentation updated.
  • Strong organisational skills : able to structure complex information in a digestible way.
  • Comfort with uncertainty .
  • Communication skills : adapt language for both technical and management audiences.
  • Comfort with collaborative tools and project tracking software.
  • Hands on – working to capture and directly update project status.
  • Preferred / Optional

  • Familiarity with metrics and reporting dashboards.
  • Experience supporting leadership with portfolio-level reporting across multiple projects.
  • Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a single up-to-date view of all active projects : status, risks, key dates, owners.
  • Proactively check in with project leads to capture changes or updates.
  • Ensure updates are accurately reflected in the tracking system (board, spreadsheet, dashboard).
  • Prepare regular reports for the management team highlighting progress, risks, and blockers.
  • Identify and communicate shifts in timelines, scope, or risks early to management, intervening where appropriate to maintain strategic directions.
  • Keep an eye on dependencies between projects and flag when one may impact another.
  • Help keep meetings efficient : distribute agendas, capture action items, follow up on them.
  • What Success Looks Like

In the first three months, establish and roll out a central project tracking system that is lightweight, effective, and widely adopted. Build trust with project leads to encourage honest progress updates. Deliver the first clear, accurate, and actionable portfolio-level status report to management. Help enable cross-functional collaboration and project visibility between hardware and software developments.

By the end of the first year, management should have consistent visibility into all active projects. Risks and delays will be surfaced early to enable better decision-making and improved outcomes. Regular reports, dashboards, and summaries will provide reliable visibility for all stakeholders.

    Benefits

  • Opportunity to define and scale a core platform at the frontier of neuroscience and computing.
  • Collaborative, innovative, and mission-driven culture.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits.
  • Flexible work arrangements and supportive team environment.
  • Office located in the heart of Melbourne’s innovation district.
  • Diversity and Inclusion

We believe that diversity is essential to our success. We are committed to creating an inclusive work environment where everyone feels valued and respected. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, marital, veteran, or disability status.

By joining Cortical Labs, you will have the opportunity to be part of a groundbreaking project that has the potential to revolutionise the field of computing.
