The National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) is Australia’s premier training ground for future leaders and practitioners in the dramatic arts. Located at Kensington in Sydney, it is a Centre of excellence in education and training. NIDA is unique in the world for its practice-based and industry-relevant training in the range that it offers which includes Acting, Design, Costume, Properties and Objects, Technical Theatre and Stage Management, Scenic Construction, Writing for Performance, Directing and Cultural Leadership.

About the Role

As a Casual Set Construction Manager at NIDA, you’ll play a pivotal role in bringing stage designs to life by overseeing the safe and efficient construction of theatrical sets. You’ll manage schedules, budgets, and student teams, ensuring all builds meet design specifications and safety standards. Collaborating across departments, you’ll coordinate materials, resolve challenges, and maintain detailed records while fostering a professional, nurturing environment that supports high-quality student experiences. From planning through to strike, your leadership will shape the physical foundation of NIDA’s Play Production season.

About You

You are an experienced professional with extensive expertise in working with metals and timber, and a strong commitment to workshop safety and best practice protocols. You bring enthusiasm for mentoring students and bridging the gap between education and industry, supported by excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Technically adept and detail-oriented, you’re confident using digital tools and thrive both independently and in collaborative environments. With a proactive mindset, you embrace change, solve problems effectively, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and high-quality student experiences.

This is a casual contract with hourly rate $47.71 per hour.
