What’s on offer
About the role
As the successful applicant, you will provide specialist psychiatric care and expert assessment for individuals involved in the criminal justice system, including those in prisons, courts, and community forensic programs. Your responsibilities will encompass diagnosing and treating complex mental illnesses, assessing risk and fitness to stand trial, and preparing expert reports for court proceedings. The position requires close collaboration with correctional services, law enforcement, legal professionals, and other mental health practitioners, while also offering opportunities for clinical leadership, supervision of trainees, and contribution to service development and policy within Tasmania’s forensic mental health system.
This is a demanding and highly specialised role that calls for advanced psychiatric expertise, excellent communication skills, and a sound understanding of forensic law and risk management. The position involves some interstate and intrastate travel, participation in on-call rosters, and engagement with patients presenting with severe and challenging conditions.
