Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

Essential functions as defined are illustrative only and not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed by this role. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following :

  • Write press releases, news stories, articles, case studies and product pieces
  • Communicate press releases and feature ideas by phone or email to national, regional and trade journalists, across print, broadcast and online, to interest them in our clients’ stories and news
  • Respond to phone calls and emails from journalists
  • Arrange interviews and editorial meetings with key journalists for clients’ spokespeople — in person or over the phone — and facilitate these meetings where appropriate
  • Monitor media coverage and report results to the wider team and clients
  • Attend client events and industry conferences
  • Work with clients on content and execution of their social media profiles to enhance and amplify their content and news
  • Generate and deliver analytics reports on media coverage for clients and competitors, social media impact, website traffic, engagement and other quantitative impacts of communications activities
  • Brainstorm and develop cut-through ideas for communications campaigns and execution
  • Write newsworthy opinion pieces / by liners for technology publications and meet client deadlines
  • Excellent written communication skills essential

  • Must be a confident communicator and presenter
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must possess excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Have a full understanding of media needs and media relationships
  • Be proactive, reliable, responsible and accurate with attention to detail
  • Possess the ability to keep information confidential
  • Tactical understanding of all primary social media platforms
  • Ability to work in time sensitive environments and under deadline pressure
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude
  • Self-motivated with a positive and professional approach to management
  • Strong teamwork skills
  • Desirable : understanding of the Australian technology landscape (e.g., cloud, service provider markets, networking infrastructure, IT security)
  • Education

    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Marketing, Commerce, Public Relations, Journalism, English, or Communications.

    Past Experience

    Past experience in technology, journalism, sales, internal / external communications / digital or marketing highly desirable. The role will involve working with several of the firm’s technology clients in an assistant account director role or account director capacity.
