About the Opportunity

We have a rewarding opportunity to join us as the First Nations Community Programs Lead supporting the Aerospace line of business in Williamtown, NSW.

Reporting to the People Lead – Aerospace, the role involves developing and leading community‑based initiatives that align with the company's values and objectives for First Nations peoples. This includes aligning with, but not being limited to, the Community Engagement Strategy for Williamtown and the Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan. Your efforts will focus on driving initiatives that promote inclusion, respect, and opportunities for First Nations communities, ensuring these plans are effectively implemented and sustained.

This role is based at our Williamtown NSW office and offers a 9‑day fortnight and hybrid work arrangement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the establishment of partnerships, networks and long‑term relationships with external First Nations Community and organisations.
  • Develop, drive, and implement business strategies to support improved outcomes for First Nations peoples, including creating a talent pipeline for the Williamtown site, with appropriate community consultation and involvement.

Lead the following Community Engagement Strategy actions for Williamtown :

  • Consult with community regarding how BAE Systems Australia can support First Nations people to become job ready.
  • Partner with agencies, organisations, other defence companies, and Commonwealth funded initiatives to support First Nations people to become job ready.
  • Consult local community on how to break down any negative perceptions of working for the Defence Industry.
  • Engage with existing First Nations employees regarding their experience during pre‑employment, recruitment, retention, and professional development to learn and explore opportunities to enhance this experience.
  • Explore local partnership opportunities with Aboriginal colleges, Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) and / or businesses for training in specific skills as per our requirements.
  • Lead by example on culturally appropriate ways to engage with First Nations communities and support culturally important events.
  • Provide subject‑matter expertise, cultural advice and guidance to the Aerospace Director, Indigenous Lead and business as appropriate.
  • Be an active participant on the BAE First Nations community of practice group.
  • About You

    You’ll have :

  • Applicants must identify as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. BAE considers being Aboriginal and / or a Torres Strait Islander to be a genuine occupational requirement for this position under the Anti‑Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
  • Experience in development and management of strategic relationships.
  • Previous experience in community and people functions such as development of communications plans and content to leverage and support programs.
  • Familiarity with working with or knowledge of community organisations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities.
  • Previous experience in managing and reconciling budgets and reporting requirements.
  • Computer literacy, with intermediate knowledge of MS Office Suite. Familiarity with tools like SharePoint and Oracle is desirable.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Baseline Government Security Clearance.
  • The role requires the ability to travel for community engagement. Applicants must either have their own transportation or be able to travel to various locations as needed.
