SUMMARY

An amazing opportunity for an experienced Privacy, Data, and AI Lawyer to join a company for a 3 to 6-month engagement while the organisation looks to recruit permanently. If you take the interim role, you may also be considered for the permanent position.

THE ROLE

An interim 3 to 6‑month role while the organisation seeks to recruit permanently.

Full‑time senior leadership role in Sydney, starting ASAP

Provide strategic legal advice on data protection, privacy laws and AI governance, ensuring compliance with Australian legislation and emerging regulations.

Lead and mentor a small legal team, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives.

Design, develop and implement organisational frameworks, policies and procedures for ethical, compliant AI use.

Oversee drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, agreements, and policies on data privacy and AI technologies.

Monitor legislative developments in privacy and AI, advising senior stakeholders on required changes.

Manage investigations and responses to data breaches or privacy incidents, liaising with regulators and external counsel as needed.

Start Date : ASAP, but at the latest 17th November 2025

ABOUT YOU

You are a senior in‑house lawyer with expertise in data, privacy, and AI governance, able to establish legal frameworks from the ground up in complex environments.

Current Australian legal practising certificate with a minimum 10 years’ post‑qualification experience, with substantial in‑house or top‑tier law firm exposure.

Strong technical knowledge of Australian privacy laws and emerging AI legislation

Experience advising on complex issues involving data protection, cybersecurity, intellectual property, and AI governance

Ability to lead and mentor legal teams, including creating structures and processes.

Skilled in managing relationships with senior stakeholders, regulators, and external counsel, and influencing outcomes at the executive level.

Commercially astute, pragmatic, and able to balance legal risk with organisational objectives under pressure
