Stepping up to Partnership is particularly difficult for Commercial Litigation lawyers, and this is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic Senior Associate who wants to learn the non-technical skills needed to get there.

This team is experiencing sustained growth, having added five new Associates and Senior Associates in the past 18 months — all in response to an expanding client base and workload. The Partner leading the practice is actively looking to hand over key client relationships, and is seeking someone ready to step into a more senior, client‑facing role.

The work is a mix of commercial litigation and corporate and personal insolvency matters, including voidable transaction claims, breach of director duties, contested recoveries, and shareholder and property disputes. You’ll also gain exposure to white‑candle crime and regulatory investigations, depending on your interests and background.

There is a strong emphasis on professional growth — not just technically, but in the non‑legal skills essential for stepping up to Partnership. You’ll have guidance on strategic thinking, client management, and running files efficiently and commercially, while maintaining autonomy in the day‑to‑day carriage of matters.

This role is ideal for a high‑performing Senior Associate who wants meaningful ownership over files and a clear path to Partnership. It’s also a strong option for someone who thrives in fast‑paced litigation but doesn’t want to chase business development targets — the practice is busy, and the work is already here.

You’ll be joining a full‑service national firm with over 500 staff and a multi‑partner Commercial Litigation team in Melbourne. The structure is lean and non‑hierarchical, and the team is known for its collaborative, high‑trust culture.
