Osborne Richardson is the go‑to recruitment agency for Environmental and Waste roles in New South Wales. We have partnered with Canterbury Bankstown Council to offer this senior position. The initial contract runs until April 2026, with an expectation to extend thereafter. In this role you will play a vital part in developing and improving the Council's critical waste, recycling, and circular‑economy plans, projects, policies and strategies, ensuring the City meets current and emerging needs and adapts to future industry and community changes.
Responsibilities
- Develop plans and strategies for the implementation and improvement of waste, recycling, circular‑economy and related services (e.g., rollout of food recycling).
- Guide key strategic waste, recycling, circular‑economy and cleansing projects so they provide the City with the direction and resources needed to address issues and challenges (e.g., Clean City Strategic Plan, Kelso Master Plan).
- Assist internal and external stakeholders to improve waste management in existing and future developments, including reviewing and responding to development applications, creating waste guides and resources for planners and developers, and contributing to local and City‑wide planning documents.
- Assist with the development of waste‑related tender specifications and service agreements and support the procurement processes to secure those services.
- Provide strategic and specialist advice to Council, state and local governments, industry and community on waste‑related issues and solutions.
- Assist with identifying achievable, creative and innovative opportunities and solutions to address the critical waste issues affecting the local government area and the state.
- Build partnerships and collaborate with stakeholders to achieve objectives.
- Represent Council in state and local government strategic projects and in industry forums.
Qualifications & Key Success Criteria
Previous experience and demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging issues and trends in the waste, recycling, and circular‑economy sectors.Prior State or Local Government experience in a similar role is highly regarded.Demonstrated understanding of waste‑related legislation, policy, procedures and contract management.Proven project management skills, including planning, establishing priorities, allocating and managing resources and budgets, and evaluation.Experience in developing planning and strategy documents and delivering strategic waste, recycling and / or circular‑economy projects.High level communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on customer service.To discuss the role in more detail or to ask any questions, please contact Owen Millar at 0414 706 605 or via email at Owen@osbornerichardson.com.au.
