  • Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland's Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.

    • Job Description
    • Reporting to the Compliance Specialist, the Compliance Advisor will support Steelmaking Coal to deliver global and local compliance requirements for internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR). The role will support implementation of Anglo American's ICFR standards, support compliance of our internal controls and provide governance over ethical business conduct.
    • This is a full-time permanent position based in our Brisbane Corporate Office with flexible working arrangements available.

      The role will be rewarding and varied and will involve the following :

    • Work with Brisbane Corporate Office, Site and Group Functions and control owners in monitoring financial reporting control standards.
    • Support monitoring of outstanding training to Brisbane Corporate Office, Site Finance and Group Functions on financial reporting control standards and ethical business conduct topics.
    • Proactively identify the impacts to financial compliance as a result of changes in business processes, working with both local and global stakeholders.
    • Support control owners and operators to manage and maintain risk and control matrices, enabling robust change management.
    • Support the delivery of risk-based control reviews.
    • Assist in monitoring and working with relevant stakeholders to create remediation plans, compensating controls and mitigating controls in response to control testing results.
    • Support the Steelmaking Coal Attestation and Certification process, including assisting in reviewing responses and consolidation of results and reporting.
    • Work with Global IM to manage local risk relating to Fraud and Segregation of Duties.
    • Utilise SAP governance reports to identify suspect transactions and control weaknesses and to agree control improvements to mitigate these weaknesses.
    • Support implementation and ongoing monitoring of Intermediary Risk Management process, annual compliance program and risk register.
    • Proactively monitoring and actioning items related to business integrity reporting processes.
    • Qualifications
    • To be successful in this position you will have experience in the following :
    • Tertiary qualification in Auditing, Finance or Risk.
    • Professional designation CPA or CA required.
    • Prior experience within a Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) environment or equivalent.
    • An understanding of business systems, processes and control environments for process level and management level controls.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong analytical and organisational skills.
    • Knowledge of SAP or similar ERP system.
    • Demonstrated positive and persuasive attitude when facing resistance to change.
    • The ability to be flexible and agile to change.
