Exciting opportunity to work as a team member in the Histology Section providing a comprehensive histology service to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, the Queensland Children's Hospital as well as a central support and referral service to laboratories throughout Queensland.
As a team member you will apply a range of both routine and specialised histological procedures to surgical and autopsy specimens to detect pathological features essential for diagnosis applying independent scientific judgement in the analysis of patient specimens leading to the verification and validation of test results and the provision of advice to the clinical unit where appropriate.
Key competencies (role specific criteria) You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following :
Demonstrated ability in a range of histological applications from routine tissue management through to the application of advanced methods and technologies including embedding, microtomy, routine special stains and advanced complex special stains, urgent frozen section protocols and specimen dissection.Demonstrated high levels of attention to detail and accuracy in performing tasks within a histology laboratory.Demonstrated ability (or ability to rapidly acquire the skill) to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA / ISO accreditation / certification.Proven willingness and ability to actively participate in and contribute to continuing education and other professional development activities.Proven ability to work and communicate effectively within a team environment to achieve the goals of the work unit including the meeting of critical deadlines.Availability to participate in a roster system across the operating hours of the department.Qualifications, registrations, and other requirements The successful applicant must hold at least a Bachelor of Science relevant to the field (or equivalent) from a recognised university or tertiary institution.Candidates must be able to participate in a roster system, including overtime as required. Current Laboratory hours fall between 0530-2300 Monday to Friday and 0530-1530 Saturday and rostered on call duties.Please detail any visa conditions you may have if you are not a permanent resident of Australia.We understand that some people may require adjustments to the workplace or the way the work is performed.
