Your new role
You will lead modelling work on the containment and eradication of a prominent pest species, Polyphagous Shothole Borer (PSHB) in Western Australia. The work will involve a combination of simulation and statistical modelling.
Your key responsibilities will be : Lead analysis of State response data to estimate detection, occupancy, and spread of PSHBEngage with key stakeholders to understand their challenges and translate analytical resultsAssist with the supervision and development of graduate student projectsWe are looking for someone with the following key capabilities : A PhD in a relevant fieldDemonstrated experience working with ecological datasetsDemonstrated experience in statistical inference and reportingKnowledge of models and theory in statistical ecologyDemonstrated track record in research publicationDemonstrated experience with data and code managementAs this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role
About Us : The Population Biology and genomics Group
The Population Biology and Genomics Group is focussed on the ecological and evolutionary dynamics of populations. We develop new theory and analytical tools to support the management of important populations across environment, agriculture, and health sectors. We apply population biology to problems in biosecurity and conservation, working with government and industry stakeholders to solve emergent biosecurity problems, and to improve future preparedness.
Established in July 2023 under the Western Australian Government Premier's Science Fellowship Program, the Population Biology and Genomics Group is a new and rapidly growing research group in the School of Molecular and Life Sciences at Curtin University.
