About The Role :

Prominent Hill is a copper-gold mine, part of the BHP South Australia copper province. BHP operates globally across Australia, North and South America, and across five commodities.

You will be a valued member of the Electrical Engineering team, driving initiatives for operational excellence. The Electrical Engineer provides electrical engineering support to manage and optimize assets and processes to ensure safe, sustainable, and reliable performance on site, in compliance with regulations and BHP policies and standards.

Location : Prominent Hill, South Australia (60-minute flight from Adelaide / 30-minute flight from Port Augusta)

Roster : 4 days on; 3 days off

Department : Maintenance Reliability

Manager : Superintendent – Reliability

Employment Type : Permanent

In this role you will :

  • Control and monitor site electrical infrastructure (HV & LV) ensuring compliance with Australian Standards.
  • Apply reliability engineering principles to identify and address major production loss and high-cost contributors, focusing on root cause resolution.
  • Maximize equipment performance throughout its lifecycle to reduce costs associated with failures.
  • Apply reliability principles during new equipment installation to maximize plant availability.
  • Identify, scope, design, and implement reliability projects to improve equipment availability aligned with business goals.
  • Facilitate understanding of failure modes, effects, and causes among teams and individuals.
  • Bridge communication between business metrics (availability, MTBF, downtime, utilization) and shop floor language.

About You :

  • Strong background in asset management and reliability of high voltage systems; mining experience is not essential.
  • Experience in electrical maintenance practices including preventive, corrective, and breakdown tasks.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, OEM specifications, condition monitoring results, and maintenance history.
  • Review plant performance parameters like availability, utilization, OEE, and costs.
  • Apply accounting principles to manage budgets for maintenance and projects.
  • Experience in failure investigations such as Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
