About your opportunity :

A unique opportunity has become available for someone to join our Melbourne based team, reporting directly to the Service Manager of the VIC / TAS Liability Claims team. In this role you will be responsible for managing a variety of claims in the Public Liability product areas. An understanding of Public Liability insurance and experience in managing Public Liability claims is preferred in order to be successful in the role.

In this position, you will :

  • Receiving, recording and processing all incoming insurance claims in the Claims team
  • Interpreting policy coverage and determining if coverage applies to claims submitted, escalating issues as needed
  • Setting reserves and authorizing payments within scope of authority, settling claims in the most cost-effective manner
  • Identifying suspicious or potentially fraudulent claims, notifying supervisor, arranging investigations and briefing solicitors if further action is to be taken
  • Contribute towards the achievement of divisional annual action plans / budgets and operational objectives
  • Develop trusted relationships with brokers / intermediaries
  • Proactively managing claims to achieve best customer outcomes and prevent escalations
  • Work with key internal and external stakeholders, including underwriting and sales teams, brokers, panel lawyers, other service providers, regulators, claimants, and their representatives
  • Develop close relationships with underwriters and product specialists
  • Enhance and develop your own technical expertise and participate in professional development and training
  • Deliver the highest quality customer service and develop strong working relationships with all customers and service providers

Your story so far :

To be successful in this role, you will have :

  • Experience in managing Public Liability Claims, preferably in the VIC & TAS jurisdictions
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a diversified portfolio of claims in the product area, including property damage and personal injury claims is preferred
  • Legal knowledge and / or legal background will be highly regarded
  • Fundamental knowledge of insurance industry and claims processes
  • Competent in relevant Claims Systems
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills and a desire to provide a superior claims service
  • Ability to effectively collaborate
  • Strong organisational skills alongside proven time management skills
  • Demonstrated analytical and negotiation skills.
