Job Description

The Biodiversity Information Office (BIO) has been created as a collaborative unit, funded jointly by the State and Commonwealth Governments, to enable innovative development and delivery of systems to capture, curate and report biodiversity data.

This position is responsible for supporting BIO's data infrastructure across the data lifecycle, including data ingestion, data quality management, application of data standards, and data delivery. This team member will participate in the execution of data engineering projects and assist with the collation of datasets to enhance BIO's coverage of Western Australian biodiversity data.

Selection Criteria

Applicants should address the following six (6) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than two (2) pages in total.

Substantial experience in the contemporary management of data across one or more components of the data life cycle, comprising data ingestion, data quality assurance, application of data standards, and data delivery.Extensively demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary design and development team to deliver data management outcomes.Extensively demonstrated ability to apply interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills to establish and maintain positive working relationships with data custodians and data users.Good conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving ability relating to the management of datasets.Experience in working with relational and NoSQL database systems; compiling complex queries; creating, managing, and optimising database structures; and cloud-hosted database services such as Azure SQL / MongoDB.Demonstrated experience of at least two of the following : Python, R or Bash / PowerShell scripting, Docker, Apache Spark or similar, Data Factory / ETL tools, and / or data lakes.About Us
