About The Opportunity

Does working in a brand new, world class PC2 Laboratory with a dedicated team of Scientists and Technical Officers, appeal to you?

An exciting opportunity exists for a dynamic individual to join the NSW Health Pathology Haematology laboratory team in a Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist capacity and provide supervision and leadership to technical and scientific staff across Morphology and Non automated Haematology sections at the Liverpool Hospital ( Non Automated Haematology testing includes Malaria, Bone Marrow slide preparation / staining, Iron stains, CSF, Kleihauer Testing including Foetal KT, UH, Heinz bodies, Infectious Mononucleosis, G6PD).

You will be part of the management team, working alongside the Laboratory Manager and Pathologists.

Liverpool Hospital is located in Liverpool, Sydney, providing excellent Healthcare to South Western Sydney Local Health District network patients.

What You'll Be Doing

Responsible for the management of scientific, technical and support staff, all testing and associated activities and logistics for the assigned laboratory. The position oversees the quality, cost and operational integrity of the department, regulatory compliance and accreditation of laboratory services in the department, human resource, business and resource management.

  • Bachelor Degree or higher degree in Science / Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification, with subjects relevant to pathology from a recognised tertiary institution.
  • Customer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers, patients and clinical and laboratory staff, along with report writing skills, statistical evaluation of scientific data and the ability to effectively communicate policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of accreditation frameworks, relevant standards and quality systems
  • Demonstrated managerial skills with experience in laboratory operations, administration and budgeting
  • Advanced knowledge of Pathology Laboratory Information Systems including supervision of e-based Quality Management Systems
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in morphology, with a strong track record of training and mentoring staff in morphological techniques and interpretation.
  • Sound understanding of legislation, policies and requirements that impact the laboratory environment including work health and safety and privacy requirements
  • Proven ability to design, implement, and maintain effective training and competency assessment programs in morphology.
