We are looking for a passionate cyber security operations manager and deputy CISO. A team player who aligns with our values and culture, takes pride in their unique contributions, and can challenge the status quo with disruptive thinking. If this sounds like you, come and join us!
The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a Cyber Security Operations Manager to join our team in Melbourne, Perth, or Sydney. As part of our ambitious three-year security strategy, we've launched a whole-of-enterprise security capability with a strong focus on enhancing our threat-led cyber operations function. This includes new tooling, a commitment to training and development, and the creation of a red team to strengthen our defensive posture.
Reporting directly to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), this role will lead the day-to-day operations of our Security Operations Centre (SOC), with a strong focus on threat intelligence, threat modelling, and security risk assessments. You will oversee all operational security functions, including threat detection, incident response, vulnerability management, and proactive threat hunting. Additionally, you will be responsible for embedding threat intelligence into operational workflows, ensuring the SOC is continuously evolving to address and pre-empt emerging threats.
Your role will be integral to safeguarding a critical part of Australia's national infrastructure, ensuring the security of our network and services, which are essential to national security and prosperity. You will have the opportunity to build and lead a team of security analysts, drive the development of our red team, and implement advanced threat-led defensive strategies, ensuring our SOC operates with agility and precision.
We're looking for a leader who exemplifies our values—strong team leadership, autonomy, sound judgement, a passion for innovation, and the ability to execute and communicate with clarity. You'll also manage relationships with our security partners and vendors to ensure alignment with Vocus' security objectives. This role offers the potential to evolve into a Deputy CISO position, depending on your skills, experience, and performance.
What you'll be doing day-to-day
As the Cyber Security Operations Manager, you will lead the management of Vocus' security tools, ensuring effective threat detection, incident response, and proactive threat hunting. A key part of your role will be integrating threat modelling and threat intelligence into day-to-day security operations to anticipate, identify, and mitigate potential risks before they impact the business. You'll also contribute to security risk assessments, ensuring our approach aligns with the ever-evolving threat landscape and supports business objectives. You will also help drive automation and leverage artificial intelligence to help Vocus achieve scale and speed for its security operations.
Your responsibilities include evaluating and deploying new technologies to strengthen our security capabilities and future-proof our defences. You'll mentor development and delivery teams on secure practices, collaborate on authentication, encryption, and authorisation solutions, and drive vulnerability assessments and penetration testing. You'll also manage compliance reporting and ensure timely, effective remediation strategies are implemented.
In addition, you'll play a vital role in shaping and enforcing corporate security policies that meet stringent legal, technical, and regulatory requirements. You'll oversee security controls for IT projects, advocate for best practices, and build strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure alignment with business goals. Recruiting and developing security talent will be key, as will maintaining technical documentation and providing escalated support for complex security challenges.
In this hands-on leadership role, you'll champion security awareness across the organisation, lead incident response efforts, and actively contribute to risk assessments. Collaboration with teams across the business will be essential in driving continuous improvement and strengthening our overall security posture.
