Why the Role MattersThe Australian Research Council Discovery Project on "Remedies for Victims of Modern Slavery in Indo-Pacific Fisheries" is a four-year research program led by Professors Justine Nolan, Natalie Klein (UNSW), and Shelley Marshall (RMIT). The position connects to the Australian Human Rights Institute at UNSW Sydney and the Business and Human Rights Centre at RMIT.

This project aims to identify legal and practical obstacles to remedies and propose solutions under various laws. Your research will contribute to advancing business and human rights scholarship and the field of human rights at sea.

AccountabilitiesConduct high-quality research on modern slavery in fisheries, focusing on remedies.Publish and present research findings in academic journals, conferences, reports, and media.Co-design and manage research activities with international collaborators.Assist with research coordination and meet project milestones.Participate in meetings and other research-related activities.Skills and ExperienceA Masters or PhD in international human rights law, labour law, law of the sea, maritime law, or related fields.Ability to conduct independent, high-quality research.Track record of research outputs with potential for impact.Ability to present at scholarly meetings and conferences.Teamwork skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines.Strong interpersonal and communication skills with diverse stakeholders.For more details, view the Position Description via the application portal.
