Sydney Local Health District is seeking a highly motivated Advanced Trainee or a GP Trainee wanting Special Skills Term to join the Palliative Care team at Concord Hospital

What you will be doing : This position is open to qualified candidates who will have completed 24 months medical clinical experience in a hospital setting and who are interested in working in Palliative Care. You will be working with the hospital consult Palliative Care service under supervision. As a key member of the multidisciplinary team, you will deal with matters of an urgent or sensitive nature, whilst exercising discretion, sensitivity and maintaining confidentiality. Decision making and supervision will be at the appropriate level according to your skills, knowledge and experience. You will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management under the guidance of and at the discretion of the Palliative Care Consultant. This position will be supported by a second Advanced Trainee in Palliative Medicine, JMO and senior Palliative Care Nurses.

This role is ideal for those with an interest in developing Palliative Care skills and is useful for GP special skills term, other specialty training and BPT training. The Diploma in Palliative Care is encouraged to be undertaken for those interested in the Diploma.

Where you will be working : Concord Repatriation General Hospital is a principal referral facility and a teaching hospital of the University of Sydney. We offer a comprehensive range of specialty and sub-specialty services, many recognised nationally and internationally as Centre’s of excellence. Major services include colorectal and laparoscopic surgery, gastroenterology, geriatrics and rehabilitation medicine, bone and joint services, cancer services, haematology, respiratory medicine and sleep studies, molecular biology and genetics, and those provided through the internationally acknowledged Statewide Burns Service, in which Concord plays a major part.   • MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • RACP advanced trainees (Palliative Medicine and other subspecialties), Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine trainees, Clin. Diploma of Palliative Medicine (RACP) trainees, Faculty of Pain Medicine trainees and Family Medicine Program trainees or as detailed under Qualifications above.
  • Completed at least three years residency since graduation.
  • Current Driver’s license (P2 licence acceptable)
  • Proven satisfactory clinical performance, supported by submissions of two current referees.
  • Demonstrated sound, effective communication skills with patients, medical and surgical colleagues and other staff.
  • Demonstrated commitment to own personal and professional development.
  • A professional attitude and flexibility in work role with a preparedness and ability to participate in after-hours overtime and on-call rosters and the required rotations both between services and geographical location to deliver patient care (including rural locations if applicable to the stream).
