About the Business Unit Integrity Policy and Performance (IPP) is a business unit within the Integrity Policy and Performance and Major Crime branch of Integrity, Regulation and Legal Services. IPP is responsible for :
supporting the Attorney-General in her role as the Minister responsible for Victoria's integrity system, legal profession regulation, and key First Law Officer functions.leading the development of policy and legislative reforms affecting Victoria's integrity system, including legal profession regulation, and key First Law Officer functions.providing departmental support for the operation of Victoria's key integrity and oversight bodies : the Victorian Inspectorate, the Independent Broad-Based Anti-Corruption Commission, the Victorian Ombudsman, the Office of the Victorian Information Commissioner, the Public Interest Monitor, the Local Government Inspectorate, and the Victorian Legal Services Board and Commissioner.About the Role The Project Directorleads a team of professional staff to deliver legal and policy advice and reform in relation to the Attorney-General's First Law Officer functions and legal profession regulation. You are responsible for providing strategic leadership across Integrity, Regulation and Legal Services as well as managing the delivery of the work program with an understanding of the impact of external events and changing stakeholder needs on the organisation and government.
Some of your duties will include :
Lead a team responsible for developing evidence-based legal and legal policy advice, briefings for the Attorney-General and the Victorian Government, as well as Cabinet and parliamentary documentation, reports and Ministerial and other correspondence.Deliver the Attorney-General's First Law Officer functions, including petitions of mercy, expungement applications, interstate prisoner transfers and overseas evidence matters.Lead work that delivers the Attorney-General's legislative and policy functions relating to the regulation of the Victorian legal profession.To learn more about this role before applying, please read the attached position description.
About you To be successful in this role, you will have :
Technical legal and legal policy skills with the ability to analyse complex issues, interpret legislation and develop accurate legal and policy solutions.Experience in Victorian Government administrative processes (including legislative and Cabinet processes) and policy development.Knowledge of criminal law practice and procedure, human rights and regulation would be advantageousProven ability to build and manage a team of professional staff to deliver high quality outputs.Proven ability to build and maintain positive, resilient and inclusive workplace cultureQualifications Bachelor of Laws or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution is highly desirable.
