ABF Border Monitoring Officers (BMOs) are responsible for overseeing the movement of Traditional Visitors within the Torres Strait Protected Zone between Australia and Papua New Guinea (PNG). They implement the 'free movement' provisions as defined by the Torres Strait Treaty in combination with the Migration Act 1958, managing the customary flow of people to conduct traditional activities, meeting and assessing arrivals and departures to ensure they comply with the Treaty requirements for traditional movements of people and the movement of goods.
This position will play a critical role in providing leadership and guidance to the BMO network and maintain strategic partnerships with external stakeholders to support shared objectives.
