Looking for registered Veterinarians with small animal surgery advanced training and or membership of ANZCVS in small animal surgery.

Base Salary HEO 7 / 8 / 9 (38 hours), $117,864 p.a. - $161,425 p.a.(pro-rata) + 17% superannuation + generous loading when registered as a specialist (a total package up to $217,197 for including specialist loading)

We are seeking to appoint a veterinarian who have completed advanced training in small animal surgery to join a team of outstanding world-class clinical colleagues at the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Sydney. This role does not require previous academic experience but rather a strong clinical background and interest in supporting student development.

They will be responsible for providing best practice veterinary small animal general surgery services at the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Sydney (UVTHS). They will take an active role in the training of students working in the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The position will help to sustain and enhance a general surgery caseload for the purpose of developing Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) students Day 1 surgical competency in the UVTH-Sydney.

Your key responsibilities will be to :

provide an effective service for general small animal surgery cases

supervise DVM students and interns on clinical rotations

support surgical practical classes on the Camperdown and Camden Campus.

provide support for cases from other clinical services within the University Veterinary Teaching Hospitals

participate in after-hours on-call roster.

About you

General Practice, with a focus in Surgery (HEO Level 7) is a veterinarian working with responsibility for his / her own clinical work and outcomes; and who is involved with clinical instruction, contributes to consultancy and / or research led by senior staff and provides high quality referral clinical services. In addition, you must have :

a degree in veterinary science registrable in New South Wales, Australia.

advanced training in Small Animal Surgery

excellent clinical skills

experience in providing clinical instruction

an ability to work independently and within a team environment

the ability to show initiative and manage competing deadlines

excellent verbal and written communication skills.

General Practice, with a focus in Surgery , (HEO Level 8) is a veterinarian with responsibilities within a specific area of clinical practice, and who provides leadership in his / her chosen discipline as well as being involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate clinical training programs. In addition to the requirements for a Registrar position, you must have :

completed a residency training program in Small Animal Surgery

Veterinary Specialist Small Animal Surgery (HEO level 9) is a veterinarian with at least partial responsibility for the management of a unit or division, including the management of a range of staff working within the relevant discipline or sub-discipline, who has, in addition to the requirements for a Registrar position :

Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists or a Diplomate status with the American College of Veterinary Surgery or the European College of Veterinary Surgery that enables registration as a Specialist in small animal surgery.

The commencement level will be determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience and knowledge.
