Ochre Medical Centre Cooma is a mixed billing rural general practice located in central Cooma. The centre has an ongoing commitment to professional development for doctors and staff. The centre also has a long-standing involvement in medical education.

Popularly referred to as the capital of the snowy mountains, Cooma is the largest town in the region, with a population of over 6000 people. Gazetted in 1849, the town grew rapidly in size after 1949, when it was established as the headquarters of the Snowy Mountains Hydroelectric Scheme.

Following the completion of the scheme, Cooma maintained its position and importance in the region due to the development of a strong tourism industry, primarily servicing tourists from Sydney and surrounds looking to access the nearby winter ski slopes. The region is family friendly, with a variety of schooling options and excellent real estate prospects. The town itself is picturesque and historic, with a striking mix of native and European trees lining the streets.
