• THE POSITION

The Emergency Registrar is directly responsible to the attending Emergency Consultant for day-to-day patient management, and ultimately to the Chief Medical Officer. They will provide the day-to-day clinical management of patients under the care and direction of the Consultant Staff of the Department to ensure a high quality of patient care. They will undertake administrative duties for the Department under the direction of the Consultant Staff to ensure that the Department is run efficiently.

• THE HOSPITAL

Owned by one of Australia's largest Private Health Care operators, this hospital has approximately 700 beds. The Emergency Department consists of 12 beds, which includes 30 adult treatment bays, a 12-bed emergency admission area for patients requiring observation, an 11-bed paediatric treatment and observation area and 3 resuscitation bays including a combined adult and paediatric resuscitation bay.

This ACEM accredited site is one of the busiest in Australia, seeing on average approximately 295 patients per day including 25-30% of Paediatric presentations.

Our client prides themselves on having a dynamic team culture, easy access to consultants and hands on procedural experience across the complete emergency medicine case mix, including paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology and trauma.

You will also have up to 5 hours of protected teaching time per week.

• KEY RESPONSIBILITIES, ACTIVITIES, AND DUTIES
• Provide high-quality clinical services to departmental attendees, in consultations with the Emergency Physician.
• Further develop clinical judgement and refine procedural skills.
• Supervise, teach, and support junior medical staff.
• Assess patients, arrange investigations, and commence appropriate treatment.
• Determine suitability for discharge, provide discharge information, and arrange follow-ups.
• Facilitation of admissions if indicated, including communication with inpatient teams.
• Ensures a relevant history and physical examination have been conducted on each patient and ensures all patient management documentation is completed.
• Carry out procedures within capabilities and experience.
• Prescribes drugs and treatment.
• Commit to a team approach in the delivery of care, working closely with nursing staff, allied health professions, members of pastoral care services, and other clinicians both onsite and offsite.
• Communicate with General Practitioners, Consultants and Specialists as appropriate.
• Complete documentation required at time of death of a patient.
• CONTINUED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
• Participate in research activities in the Emergency Department.
• Undergo regular performance appraisals by the Emergency Physicians.
• Participate in Departmental and Hospital meetings.
• Participate in all continued professional development activities.
