Base pay range

A$200,000.00 / yr - A$260,000.00 / yr

We are seeking a strategic, hands-on technology leader to take full ownership of the technical direction, delivery, and leadership of our engineering function. This role sits at the intersection of architecture, delivery execution, security, and team development, with a strong focus on cloud-native infrastructure and scaling product platforms in a regulated environment.

The CTO will guide technical strategy, manage a growing team of engineering leaders (both local and offshore), and ensure alignment between technology execution and broader business goals.

Key Responsibilities

Own the technical roadmap and platform strategy to enable scale, performance, and resilience.
Lead architectural decision-making across backend, frontend, and infrastructure domains.
Champion best practices in system design, software quality, observability, and maintainability.
Guide the evolution of our cloud-native infrastructure (primarily on Google Cloud Platform).

Engineering & Team Leadership

Lead a multi-team engineering function across local and offshore groups.

Mentor and support engineering leads, while fostering a high-performance, delivery-oriented culture.

Drive team structure, growth planning, and hiring strategy as the business scales.

Security, Compliance & Governance

Oversee implementation of security and compliance frameworks (e.g. ISO 27001, secure coding practices, privacy regulations).

Own technical governance processes, vendor security reviews, and risk assessments.

Promote a DevSecOps culture throughout engineering.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Represent the tech function in executive forums and company planning sessions.

Act as a key partner to product, business, and data teams, translating strategic objectives into technical outcomes.

Support market expansion with a focus on platform readiness and compliance.

Ideal Candidate

5–10 + years of experience leading multi-team technical organisations, including offshore delivery.

A background as a hands-on engineer with deep architectural experience, particularly with Python-based systems.

Strong experience with Google Cloud Platform, including infrastructure, CI / CD, security, and observability tooling.

A track record of leading delivery in fast-paced, product-centric environments - ideally in scale-ups or regulated industries.

Strong knowledge of agile development, software fundamentals, and engineering best practices.

Familiarity with frontend and legacy systems

Proven experience embedding secure development practices and managing technical compliance programs.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence across business and technical teams.
