Job description

Group facilitators manage a group of children and young adults on the autism spectrum. As a social group assistant you will be responsible for encouraging, mentoring and supervising young teens on the autism spectrum. Sessions run weekly on Fridays between 4 : 30pm and 7 : 30pm during the school term.

The sessions are a combination of in-house activities (for example, crafts, movies, games) and excursions. This position would be appropriate for students and new graduates of social work, occupational therapy or psychology.

Some of teh duties include but are not limited to :

  • Utilise a strength based approach focusing on special interests to create opportunities for people to come together to share interests and create friendships;
  • Collaborate with participants and their parents / carers and assess the needs of the individual participant;
  • Run activities including; community / environmental projects, centre-based activities, outdoor activities, excursions and incursions related to interests identified by the participants in the individual groups;
  • Mentor, coach and support individuals and encourage greater social inclusion;
  • Undertake administrative tasks, conduct intake interviews, maintain effective recording systems and respond to queries;
  • Comply with NDIS, other funders, and Spectrum Space quality system requirements and participant reporting requirements as needed.

This position requires you to have a WWCC and NDIS clearance check which we can help you obtain.
