  • About the roles

The National Firearms Register Program (NFR) is delivering the most significant reform to Australia's firearms management in thirty years. The four-year Program will deliver the National Firearms Register by July 2028, through five streams of work, leading the technical uplift of Australia's firearms management systems, improvements to data quality, reforms to legislation and policy reform, and support though change management and stakeholder engagement.

This fast-paced, complex reform program will be delivered through the National Firearms Register Program (NFR Program), which is led by ACIC on behalf of all partners.

We are expanding the delivery capacity of the team, to include dedicated sections with responsibility for governance, planning and assurance and program delivery, and a business support team. The below roles will be offered as non-ongoing for a maximum period of 2 years and a merit pool will be created for any future ongoing vacancies that may arise.

  • Director, Technical and Partnership Group
  • We are seeking an experienced Director to oversee the NFR Program's Technical and Partnership Group.

    Key responsibilities :

  • Oversee the technical uplift and integration of a number of ACIC's national policing information systems and ensure their integration readiness to enable a successful operation of the National Firearms Register.
  • Work closely with a small project team and all partner agencies to ensure data from firearm registries and portals adheres to agreed standards and is supported through data governance.
  • Build and lead high-performing teams, ensuring quality outcomes that are aligned to stakeholder and organisational needs.
  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with key stakeholders including colleagues across the division, staff in the ACIC and partner agencies.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement aligned with the APS values.
  • To succeed in this role, you will have exceptional leadership skills and proven Australian Government digital transformation experience.

  • Director, Planning and Assurance
  • As Director, Planning and Assurance you will play a pivotal leadership role in supporting the successful delivery of the NFR program, through working with a diverse range of stakeholders across multiple government departments, and leading program planning, risk, compliance, assurance and resource management to manage the NFR's program planning and assurance obligations.

    Key responsibilities :

  • Oversee planning and scheduling for the Program, including working with partner agencies to identify and report on dependencies and risks to delivery.
  • Build and lead high-performing teams, ensuring quality outcomes that are aligned to stakeholder and organisational needs.
  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with key stakeholders including colleagues across the division, staff in the ACIC and partner agencies.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement aligned with the APS values.
  • To succeed in this role, you will demonstrate exceptional leadership skills and proven planning and assurance experience skills.

  • Director, Governance
  • As Director, Governance you will play a pivotal leadership role in supporting the successful delivery of the NFR program, through working with a diverse range of stakeholders across multiple government departments, and managing the NFR's governance arrangements.

    Key responsibilities :

  • Provide sophisticated governance and secretariat for senior boards and multi-jurisdiction and multi-agency committees.
  • Build and lead high-performing teams, ensuring quality outcomes that are aligned to stakeholder and organisational needs.
  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with key stakeholders including colleagues across the division, staff in the ACIC and partner agencies.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement aligned with the APS values.
  • To succeed in this role, you will demonstrate exceptional leadership skills and proven planning and assurance experience skills.

    These roles require individuals who can demonstrate :

  • Strategic Leadership and Vision - Managing a large team of technical specialists, you will lead the delivery of the NFR Program's technical uplift, data quality and change streams across more than ten Commonwealth, state and territory government agencies.
  • Stakeholder Engagement - Build and maintain trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including senior government officials across Commonwealth agencies and state and territory governments.
  • Communication - Exceptional and proven senior communication skills.
  • In addition, you will demonstrate the following skills, experience and attributes :

  • Minimum ten years of executive-level experience in program management,
