  • The Opportunity
  • As a qualified Philanthropy and Partnerships Manager you will be ensuring the sustainability and growth of the high value donor program by working closely with philanthropists and senior staff to secure both unrestricted and project-specific funding.

  • Working here will include
  • Donor Relationships
  • Manage a portfolio of 80 major donors and 50 prospective donors ensuring regular face-to-face meetings, ask meetings, delivery of pitches and updates on ActionAid's work globally.
  • Maintain and develop individual cultivation strategies for each donor in the portfolio, moving donors along the 'prospect pipeline' and making sure that donors are not stuck at the cultivation stage.
  • Solicit gifts at face-to-face meetings, involving senior colleagues or peer to peer volunteers where appropriate.
  • Some key relationships may be managed by other staff members, such as the Head of Fundraising or Executive Director, but the PPM would still provide strategic and administrative support for these relationships.
  • Identify the most effective opportunities to identify and cultivate major donor prospects, including by seeking advice and involvement of donors, Board members and other influencers.
  • Research and screen potential corporate and organisational partners.
  • Proactively source and attend appropriate networking events to build a contact base to increase the target and prospective donor base.
  • Working closely with the programs team to ensure the delivery of timely narrative and financial reports for donors that clearly identify project outcomes and meet the donors' reporting requirements.
  • Proposal Development
  • Work with ActionAid's Australian and international staff to identify the areas of ActionAid's work that are the highest priority for funding.
  • Work closely with the Programs Team to develop compelling and persuasive funding proposals that are highly targeted to individual donor's interests.
  • Ensure that project proposals adhere to the ACFID Code of Conduct and other internal ActionAid standards.
  • Program Management
  • Develop and lead the implementation of a Major Gift strategy focused on growth and an annual plan that maximises support from major donors, philanthropic foundations and businesses to achieve ActionAid Australia's vision and purpose.
  • Work closely with the Individual Giving Team to identify mid-level donors who may be qualified as prospective major donors.
  • Work closely with the Finance and Administration team to ensure that project funding is distributed and acquitted correctly, that any remaining restricted balances are dealt with according to the donor's wishes and to create financial reports for donors.
  • Work closely with the Programs team to ensure that all project management requirements are met, such as risk assessment, reporting and monitoring visits.
  • Systems and Processes
  • Work closely with the Head of Fundraising to develop annual budgets and forecasts based on strategic plans and your assessment of the current climate.
  • Monitor results and activities against budgets and plans and report to the Head of Fundraising and other LT members at regular intervals.
  • Identify improvements to the supporter database and financial processing that will improve both identifying new prospective major donors and improving relationships with existing ones.

  • A commitment to ActionAid's vision, mission, and values.
  • Have at least 3 years of experience in developing and managing relationships with high net-worth individuals, philanthropic foundations and / or corporations.
  • Proven experience in successfully soliciting and closing gifts (including at a five-figure level or above), or transferable skills from a sales or marketing operation.
  • Experience of working with and engaging senior staff, CEOs, and board members in donor / client relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the proven ability to articulate complex issues in a compelling and persuasive manner both in writing and in person, and confident to present a pitch with confidence.
  • Entrepreneurial and target driven. Must be focused on achieving agreed KPIs in relation to regular contact with prospects and donors as well as annual and monthly financial targets.
