BGC Asphalt supply and lay asphalt throughout WA for highway maintenance, freeways, suburban roads, as well as the civil and defence industries.
BGC's Quarries, based at The Lakes along The Great Southern Highway, produce more than 1,500,000 tonnes of crushed aggregate a year, and supply the raw material for the required concrete, roof tiles, block paving products, road construction projects, civil engineering and large commercial projects.
The OpportunityAs the HSE Advisor, you will be exposed to a variety of safety-related functions and will play a key role in driving the health, safety and environment activities and a positive safety culture across the Asphalt and Quarries operations, including :
Promoting Safety Leadership - Providing advice and leadership on HSE-related matters, striving to achieve safe operations and continuous improvementInvestigations & Reporting - Facilitate the incident investigation process and reporting on workplace incidents and accidentsHSE Systems & Compliance - Reviewing, developing, implementing and maintaining safety management systems, HSE policies, JHAs, SWMS, Lift Plans, Work Instructions and associated documentation for work activitiesHazard Identification & Prevention - Ensuring the identification and control of hazards, the prevention of injuries and the maintenance of a safe working environmentHSE Advocacy - Working closely with Supervisors to ensure safety policies and procedures are understood and adhered to by employees and contractorsAuditing & Inspections - Conducting regular safety audits, risk assessments and inspections, site safety inductions and contributing to toolbox talks, safety committee meetings and pre-start meetingsStakeholder Engagement - Maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including business leaders, managers, employees and contractors, government and regulatory agencies and officersCertificate IV in Workplace Health and Safety (essential)Certificate IV in Training and Assessing (desirable)Previous experience in mining and civil (desirable)Demonstrated experience in an Advisory-level roleStrong understanding and working knowledge of relevant legislation, standards and codesHigh degree of professionalism, the ability to work autonomously and make sound decisions within the scope of the roleConfidence building effective relationships across Asphalt, Quarries and internal BGC stakeholders and external stakeholdersHigh level of influencing, communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written) with the ability to confidently communicate at all levelsIntermediate to advanced computer literacy, particularly with Safety Data Management Systems, MS Office and Excel.What we can offerCompetitive remuneration package with a tool of trade vehicleA challenging and diverse role with a high degree of autonomySupportive HSE leadership and a commitment to professional growth and developmentBacked by over 60 years of experience in the building industry, BGC operations spans manufacturing through to construction.
