Job description

As Our Principal Policy Officer, You Will

Contribute to the effective delivery of services ensuring the objectives and related activities of the Unit occur to the highest standards.Actively contribute to and / or lead and monitor progress of related projects designed to achieve government, organisational and Unit objectives.Lead the development of legislation to implement regulatory proposals, including by analysis of complex regulatory reform and agricultural, biosecurity, fisheries and forestry regulatory and policy options, and where appropriate negotiate suitable outcomes.Prepare and provide authoritative, high-quality and timely policy advice to senior departmental officers and key stakeholders.Identify risks, issues and solutions to ensure the achievement of government objectives.Prepare high-quality written reports, briefs, drafting instructions, submissions and correspondence for the Minister and senior departmental officers.Provide strategic input on policy deliverables, ensuring they meet quality standards, and develop and implement strategies for the monitoring and evaluation of policy initiatives.Maintain awareness of emerging policy variables including impediments, approaches, innovative solutions and opportunities.Initiate, maintain and enhance effective relationships with key internal and external partners, clients and stakeholders, promoting effective communication channels for the successful delivery of priorities including feedback mechanisms and expectations.Where applicable, lead and / or mentor team members to support the agency in meeting legislative timeframes and individual professional development processes.Support the Director in fostering an environment that values performance, client service, continuous improvement and innovation in the delivery of high- quality services.Undertake and / or coordinate other activities and projects as directed.

Mandatory Requirements

High level analytic, conceptual and problem-solving skills.Ability to effectively provide authoritative advice to senior staff using advanced effective oral and written communication skills.Ability to effectively engage, negotiate and influence to achieve organisational goals.

You may also have

A relevant Tertiary qualification is highly desirable.
