We're looking for experienced and qualified APS6 Historians to join the History Team within the Department's Community Engagement branch. This is your opportunity to shape national remembrance through high-impact projects that honour the service and sacrifice of Australian defence personnel.
As a key member of the History Team, you'll contribute to commemorative campaigns, books, speeches, posters, oral histories, and more—ensuring every story is told with accuracy, dignity, and meaning. Your work will support the Department, the Minister, and the wider community.
In this role, you will : Develop and review compelling historical content for the public, the Minister, and Departmental executivesContribute to national commemorative programs tied to significant anniversariesConduct and oversee rigorous research, fact-checking, and historical guidanceManage diverse projects and deliverables—on time, on budget, and to a high standardProvide expert advice on the representation of military historyMentor junior staff and help build the team's capabilityWe're looking for someone who : Holds an Honours, Masters or PhD in Australian military historyWrites and communicates clearly and persuasively for varied audiencesManages competing priorities under pressureBuilds strong relationships with veterans, families, ex-service organisations, and stakeholdersLeads with integrity and communicates with influenceMake history.
