The RoleSection OverviewThe Commemoration and Visitor Engagement (CVE) Section is part of the Public Programs Branch.

The Section delivers the Memorial's visitor experience across commemorative, interpretive and visitor service platforms.

The Section comprises four teams; Visitor Services, Education, Events & Ceremonies, and Last Post Ceremony.Team OverviewThe Education team is made up of nine ongoing staff, up to 30 casuals and approximately 8 volunteers.

Approximately 125,000 school children visit the Memorial each year with the majority undertaking a facilitated program.

Many more engage with the Memorial remotely via virtual excursions, webinars and the DVA supported Memorial Box program.

The team may also deliver after-hours tours for visitors to the Memorial.Job DescriptionThe Manager Education leads a team of museum education professionals who are responsible for the research, development, delivery and ongoing evaluation of engaging, Australian curriculum linked learning programs, to both an onsite and online, school-aged audience, ensuring all programs remain relevant to the Memorial's strategic vision : to be recognised globally as one of the finest national memorials of its kind, providing meaningful experiences through commemoration and authentic and engaging storytelling.The work involves the development and implementation of programs, policies and operational procedures, establishing effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, planning and managing budgets and reporting, and recruiting, training and managing the professional development of a team of full-time and casual staff as well as volunteers.There is also a requirement to assess existing and develop new education programs and pricing for the extended galleries.Core ResponsibilitiesLead the team to achieve the Memorial's goals, managing the provision of high quality, Australian Curriculum linked learning experiences for schools onsite, and through outreach products including the Memorial Box program, Virtual Excursions, and web based learning resources.Provide professional expertise and strategic direction in shaping the proposed interactive Education centre, as part of the Memorial's Development Project, connecting content to curriculum outcomes and Memorial galleries.Build team capability through staff mentoring and training, regular performance feedback and career development opportunities, promoting collaboration and diversity.Identify opportunities to develop new lifelong learning activities for children and families in consultation with the broader CVE section and Memorial, and aligning with content in expanded gallery spaces.Build and sustain effective working relationships with a network of key internal, and external stakeholders such as the Department of Veterans' Affairs, various Departments of Education : PACER Committee, NCETP, HTAA, and other national cultural agencies.Communicate confidently, providing advice to Memorial staff, and stakeholder groups on Australian curriculum related content and best practice pedagogy for a young audience in a museum setting.Prepare high level correspondence, papers, and reports such as administration briefs, risk assessments and budgets, contributing to the overall management of the section in business planning, budgets, and WHS and Child Safety compliance.Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).All applicants external to AWM that are offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a National Police Check, even if they currently hold a security clearance.
