  • The Role

    The Maritime Integrated Warfare Systems (MIWS) Branch is seeking professional, motivated and experienced EL 1 Project Managers to join the Australian Combat Management Systems (AusCMS) Directorate to contribute to Combat Management Systems of the Royal Australian Navy.

    The Project Manager will support the AusCMS Director in providing project / product, technical, commercial and relationship management advice, as well as other assigned responsibilities to deliver Directorate outcomes. Managing such activities related to the physical design, integration, test, certification and delivery of the AusCMS to Navy.

    International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR) is the United States regulation that controls the manufacture, sale and distribution of Defence and space-related articles and services. The ITAR contains a list of “restricted” countries that are unable to access ITAR controlled information, and therefore we will need to know if an applicant holds dual citizenship to one of the restricted countries to ensure they meet the requirement to perform the role (and we do not breach any ITAR requirements).

    This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines / classifications that are critical to Defence capability.     Will have the following attributes and competencies to fulfil the expected duties of an EL 1 Project Manager :

    • Provide leadership and management of a multi-disciplined project team and coordinate project activities including support to strategic planning, governance functions and human resource management.
    • Be accountable for managing and leading a team, including providing clear and consistent communication, setting clear performance and behavioural standards, managing performance, delegating responsibility, guiding and developing people.
    • Be responsible for the management of schedule, risk, budget and resources, preparation of briefings, submissions, reports and returns relating to the project progress and issues in accordance with organisational requirements.
    • Apply established technical, operational, professional and administrative activities, procedures, practices and project management methodologies.
    • Identify risks and opportunities and take account of these in planning, decision-making and priority setting.
    • Influence and motivate team members and actively lead group activities.
    • Analyse and interpret project performance against agreed plans and develop and evaluate strategies to achieve project outcomes.
    • Take the initiative to resolve issues by identifying and developing ideas through analysis of alternative courses of action and their implications.
    • Be accountable to manage a range of project activities and coordinate project inputs in accordance with organisational practices, methods and standards appropriate to the complexity of the project.
    • Prepare correspondence, briefs and reports as required including submissions and documents for higher delegate and committee consideration.
    • Interpret and ensure compliance with legislative, police and regulatory frameworks.
