Job Overview :
The Principal Pipeline Designer directly impacts the effectiveness of their team and related team. They exchange ideas and information relating to Pipeline Design effectively. The Principal Pipeline Designer may work autonomously within established Pipeline Design procedures and practices. They may act as a lead, coordinating the work of others. The Principal Pipeline Designer proposes improvements to processes and methods within the Pipeline Design discipline.
The Principal Pipeline Design will be involved in all McDermott projects assigned to them in both a leadership and execution capacity, need to also deliverable drawing deliverables as required, in consultation with the Design and Engineering leads.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications and Education :
- 10 years minimum with a major contractor or consultant of which 5+ years of experience in offshore oil and gas
- Experience as Lead Designer on a small or medium-sized project is essential
- High School graduate with a diploma in Mechanical Design, or Drafting in a related discipline or equivalent experience
- Advanced depth and breadth of expertise in Plant Design and using 3D CAD systems including E3D or SP3D
- Detailed knowledge of AutoCAD
- Good knowledge of other engineering disciplines
- Familiar with the associated local regulatory environment and international and national industry standards and specifications
- Minimum 1 02 projects experience in E3D / S3D
- Capable of handling multiple projects
- Knowledge of QA Systems and a good communicator
- Knowledgeable in project coordination and execution skills
- Detailed knowledge of AutoCAD and / or Auto lisp Programming, 3D Modeling, Menu, and / or Macro compilation skills would be an advantage

Responsibilities
Key Tasks and Responsibilities :
Perform Design and Engineering process facilities within a specified time while adhering to maintenance, safety, and quality standards, consider constructability, economics, and operation into account during Pre-FEED, FEED, or Detailed Design phasesSet priorities, organize own work and time to meet objectives, and (as Lead Designer) forecast and plan resource requirementsDevelop 3D Models and ensure clash free models in coordination with all other disciplines' requirementsEnsure design deliverables are completed and issued per project specifications, McDermott, and project Level 2 & 3 procedures, and within agreed schedules and budgetsApply knowledge and / or skills to perform complex workWhen acting as Lead Designer / Design coordinator, in addition :Lead the design team to complete the tasks within the planned schedule and budget, in accordance with standards, McDermott and project-specific proceduresAct as project-based discipline point of contact in communications and meetings with Project Team, Client, vendor / supplier, and / or subcontractor counterpartsEnsure that the inter-discipline aspects of the design and deliverables are addressedSupport Lead Piping Engineer in measuring progress and productivityCoordinate all activities within own discipline and interface with other disciplinesEnsures effective communications among other disciplines and effective management of changeCoordinate 3D Model Reviews and ensure Review comments are closedWhen acting as Designers Coordinator :Coordinate large Design team as Designers CoordinatorCoordinate project Design interdisciplinary activities to ensure timely and organized distribution of information amongst all Lead DesignersEnsure interfaces and deliverables are clearly identifiedSupport the Department Manager with the Designers appraisalsSupport the Department Manager with the strategic development of the Designers Teams and provide guidance on Training and Technical Development of the Designers TeamBecome fully familiar with the Project Scope of Work, specifications, schedule, and inter-discipline requirements, including identifying concerns as early as practicable and taking appropriate initiatives to address the issueIdentify changes to scope and promptly raise change notifications in the Change Management SystemDevelop Plant Design and 3D Modelling, Drawings, and input into Plant Layout Narrative in accordance with the agreed Scope of Work, man-hours, and scheduleAssist the Lead Piping Engineer in raising technical queries, preparing the piping estimate and job scope changes,Attend (As lead Piping Designer) project Kickoff meetings, Review meetings, Vendor meetingsMonitor and coordinate the design team remotely, if required, and can lead a project in a Multi Office Project Execution Environment (MOPEX)Able to identify issues as soon as they arise and follow up with any required corrective actionSupport and supervision of less-experienced members within the design teamEnsure that the work is carried out in accordance with McDermott requirements, Client and Statutory Design Codes, Standards, or Procedures with a particular focus on Health and Safety PoliciesIs accountable for the performance and results of a team within the Piping DisciplineSupport Proposals and Studies from a Piping point of viewExchange ideas and information effectively, is able to explain difficult concepts and negotiate with others to adopt a different point of viewImpacts the level of service and the team’s ability to meet quality and timeliness objectivesHas good leadership and Management skillsIs guided by policies, resource requirements, budgets, and the business planHas developed advanced and specialized expertise within their own area to perform the most complex workIs knowledgeable of other disciplines' work processesIdentify and resolve technical, operational, and organizational problems that impact effectivenessReports to :
