Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Manager to lead and manage the payroll function for our client's Melbourne CBD office. This role is responsible for overseeing a small, dedicated payroll team, ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll for a large, diverse workforce across multiple sites nationally.
The successful candidate will bring strong leadership, excellent technical payroll knowledge, and a proactive approach to process improvement and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end payroll process for employees across the national organisation
- Lead, mentor, and develop a small payroll team, promoting high performance and professional growth
- Ensure timely and accurate payroll processing in compliance with relevant legislation, awards, and enterprise agreements
- Maintain and improve payroll systems, processes, and controls
- Collaborate with HR, Finance, and IT departments to ensure payroll data integrity and reporting accuracy
- Manage payroll-related reporting, including superannuation, PAYG, STP, and other statutory obligations
- Ensure compliance with all relevant awards, Fair Work requirements, and state / federal tax regulations
- Lead audits and manage external payroll compliance reporting
- Stay updated with changes in payroll legislation and ensure proactive implementation of necessary changes
Skills and Experience Required
Proven experience in managing payroll for a medium to large organisation, ideally within the healthcare or related industryStrong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, superannuation, taxation, and complianceExperience leading and developing a payroll teamExcellent analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skillsProficiency in payroll systems (e.g., Chris21, SAP, or similar), with advanced Excel skillsExceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and confidentialityStrong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departmentsQualifications
Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field (preferred)Certification in Payroll or Membership with the Australian Payroll Association (highly regarded)What's on Offer
