The opportunity

The ANAO is seeking a highly capable and experienced Executive Officer to provide strategic operational, administrative, and stakeholder engagement support to the Office of the Auditor-General (The Office). This is a critical role, responsible for ensuring the efficient coordination of the Auditor-General’s priorities and delivering high-level support to the Deputy Auditor-General and other senior executives.

The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding organisational and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to proactively manage the operations of a dynamic, fast-paced executive office. Work may be required outside normal work hours to meet peak work demands.

As the Executive Officer, you will be a trusted advisor and liaison, working across ANAO and with key external partners, including senior government officials and parliamentary stakeholders.

The key duties of the position include :

  • Coordinate and manage the daily operations of the Office of the Auditor-General, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Provide executive support to the Auditor-General, Deputy Auditor-General, and other senior leaders, including briefing coordination, correspondence, and diary management.
  • Lead high-level stakeholder engagement, maintaining strong relationships across the SES, government agencies, and parliamentary bodies.
  • Anticipate and respond to emerging issues, supporting the timely delivery of executive priorities.
  • Exercise discretion and sound judgment in managing confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Ensure high standards of communication, professionalism, and service delivery within the Office.

  • Demonstrated discretion, tact, and diplomacy in handling sensitive information.
  • Flexibility to work outside standard hours during periods of high demand.

    Desirable qualifications / experience

    There are no mandatory qualifications for this role, however, the following experience is highly desirable :

  • Experience supporting senior executives or ministers within the APS or government sector.
  • Familiarity with Cabinet processes, parliamentary engagement, or intergovernmental relations.
  • Eligibility

    Citizenship – To be eligible for employment with the ANAO, applicants must be an Australian citizen.

    Security Clearance – The Australian community requires the highest level of integrity from ANAO employees. The preferred applicant must have at minimum; a baseline security and is required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the Negative Vetting 1 level.
