The Office for Youth (OfY) is the government lead for implementation the Young Queenslanders Strategy and Queensland Youth Engagement Charter. OfY is also the strategic policy hub on youth matters across government that works to support the Queensland Government vision - Queensland’s young people are empowered to actively participate, cultivate their futures, live their best lives and thrive in our communities.

This work takes forward the Government’s objective to Invest in Skills including enabling Queensland’s young people to contribute to shaping government policies, programs, and services.

The OfY team works with partners across government and within the sector to ensure young Queenslander's voices are heard and they are supported to participate in government decision-making through a range of formal and informal mechanisms.

Key initiatives include :

  • Delivering a range of engagement and leadership opportunities for young First Nations people in Queensland including the Queensland Indigenous Youth Leadership Program which develops the leadership skills in Queensland's young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 18-25 to achieve success in their careers and lead change in their communities.
  • The YMCA Queensland Youth Parliament immerses participants in unique leadership and educational opportunities, allowing them to experience parliamentary operation firsthand, mingle with Members of Parliament, have their say in debates on topical issues and draft Youth Bills and Acts.
  • Queensland Youth Week held in April each year, is a state-wide celebration of young people aged 12-25.
  • Engaging young people across the state through Speak OUTs to talk about local challenges and their ideas for change across a range of priority topics generated by young people themselves

What you will be doing :

  • Research, analyse and contribute to the development and coordination of programs, policies and projects relating to the OfY deliverables.
  • Undertake program and project management work to plan, implement, analyse, improve, monitor, evaluate and report on projects and programs.
  • Liaise and consult effectively with staff, internal and external stakeholders on matters and issues affecting OfY.
  • Prepare a range of written materials including social media content, web text, information sheets, briefs, correspondence, advice, and other complex documentation.
  • Respond to enquiries and provide advice about programs, services, and procedures relevant to OfY.
  • Support and contribute to the deliverables and responsibilities of the team as required and assist with the development of strategies, programs or initiatives that relate to the work of the OfY.
  • Be an effective member of the team including working independently or as part of a team to achieve project outcomes.
  • Manage and / or support programs and projects to deliver outcomes for the working group and OfY.
  • Manage contracts with third parties delivering services to OfY.
  • Undertake priority response group projects and tasks as allocated by the Manager, OfY.
  • Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of First Nations people and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations people.
  • The skills you will need include :

  • Experience using research and analysis to solve problems and inform the direction of projects and programs.
  • Experience preparing a range of written materials including social media content, web-text, briefing notes, external correspondence, and information papers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and understanding, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge and understanding, of OfY business organisational priorities and the key issues affecting OfY and Queensland's young people.
  • Experience in program and project management, with a proven ability to meet deadlines and communicate progress and issues.
  • Mandatory Requirement

  • This role provides education, coaching and / or support services to children and young people and therefore a valid Blue Card with the organisation.
  • Applications to remain current for 12 months.
