Operating in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, the Rio Tinto Iron Ore Hope Downs 1 (HD1) project aims to ensure continuous production of operations by developing two new ore bodies : Bedded Hill Top (BHT) and Hope Downs 2 (HD2).
The works scope includes various tasks such as accommodation facilities for construction personnel (700 rooms), realignment of HD1 Mine Access Road, and realignment of the Great Northern Highway. The existing Mine Access Road (MAR) will be upgraded for short-term hauling of ore from HD2 to HD1. Additionally, a new road train haul road from HD2 to HD1 will be constructed.
The Role
Genus is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join our team in WA, who will play a pivotal role in the successful delivery of the Rio Tinto Iron Ore Hope Downs 1 Project. Wil be responsible for overseeing various aspects of project execution, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure that project objectives are achieved safely, on time, and within budget. From planning and design to construction and handover, the Project Engineer will provide technical expertise, leadership, and coordination to drive project success.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure all quality and environmental aspects of the project are identified and addressed to maintain effective operation and project delivery.
- Maintain and apply all relevant standards, policies, guidelines and legislative requirements necessary to support responsible decisions and courses of action for the construction of renewable infrastructure projects.
- Provide support and advice on planning and design suitability and options, the use of materials, resources, components or systems within the project, and construction practices and problems to ensure project success and best practice are achieved.
- Manage the operational aspects of project delivery to ensure the effective and efficient use of systems and processes involved with all phases of the project management model.
- Liaise and oversee subcontractors, consultants and suppliers work in accordance with contract requirements ensuring high performance in terms of time, cost and quality.
- Proactively manage any community and environmental issues and effective liaison with affected external stakeholders.
- Prepare project status reports and change orders.
Experience / Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in project engineering or related roles, preferably in large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Proficiency in project management software such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies, contract administration, and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated track record of successful project delivery, including managing budgets, schedules, and resources.
- Experience in stakeholder engagement, risk management, and quality assurance processes.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
