Job description

A fantastic opportunity exists for a highly experienced and motivated professional to join the Economic Development and International Branch (EDIB) within the Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC) as the Head of International Engagement.

EDIB provides advice to the Premier and Cabinet on a range of international engagement, economic development, jobs and employment, investment attraction, innovation, small business, regional development, tourism and major events, sport and recreation and creative industries issues.

As the Head of International Engagement you will provide policy advice to the DPC Secretary and senior leadership, Premier and Cabinet on a broad range of international engagement and policy initiatives, including supporting the Premier, Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier and Governor of Victoria's international travel and engagement with the diplomatic community and overseas visitors and investors.

You will develop, manage and maintain effective working relationships with relevant government and non-government agencies and represent the Department and / or the Government's views on intergovernmental and inter-agency committees, multi-disciplinary teams and taskforces to deliver timely and high-quality outcomes.

About you

  • Proven high-level interpersonal, representational and communication skills, including ability to influence and negotiate effectively at all levels and develop effective relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience and track record in providing authoritative, high quality and timely policy advice in a sensitive and complex environment.
  • Proven capacity to plan and manage a range of complex projects and agreements and deliver timely and high-quality outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to represent the department's views on intergovernmental and inter-departmental committees and negotiate high-quality outcomes.
  • Demonstrated effective people management skills.

    The department is committed to providing and maintaining a working environment which is safe and without risk consistent with the department's obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (OH&S Act).
