Blue Mountains District ANZAC Memorial Hospital is an acute hospital that supports a population of approximately 80,000 and is the only ANZAC Memorial hospital remaining in NSW. Easily accessible to Sydney residents, our team of clinicians, allied health, and support staff works with the community on a shared goal to maintain the delivery of high-quality healthcare in the Blue Mountains region.
The Aboriginal Health Practitioner (AHP) works as key member of a multi-disciplinary team to provide flexible, holistic and culturally appropriate health care services, including direct clinical care once registered, to Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander people and their families.
Your role as The Aboriginal Health Practitioner (AHP) will act as an advocate for Aboriginal patients and families in the provision of culturally appropriate health care. You will assist Aboriginal people to make informed decisions about their health care needs by explaining clinical services, treatments and findings from assessments and interventions. This position will see you actively participate in health promotion / health education / disease prevention programs to empower Aboriginal people and their carers or family to manage their health.

- What you will bring to the role
- Must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent (an applicant's race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW) and a demonstrated ability to effectively and sensitively liaise and communicate with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities and agencies.
- Has undertaken or is willing to undertake, a Certificate IV Aboriginal Primary Health Care Practice with current registration as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and liaise with other health professionals and external agencies to facilitate integrated care for Aboriginal people.
- Demonstrated understanding of the issues impacting the health of Aboriginal people, particularly mental health, drug & alcohol, psychosocial, domestic violence or sexual assault issues.
- Must be able to identify and implement health promotion activities within a secure environment for Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander Patients.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, time management, and computer literacy, including Microsoft Office programs.
- Ability to work unsupervised, take initiative, and take a lead role in initiating and carrying out community development activities.
