Job description

Salary Range : $88,923 - $92,670 + Attractive Superannuation

As part of the Health Policy Reform team, you will work on foundational policy activities, from research and analysis to synthesising policy positions. You will contribute to managing and monitoring a project, internal stakeholder consultation, drafting instructions for legislative instruments, and developing policy documents for external consultation. This will lead to the improved outcomes for clients through clearer legislation.

Successful applicants will be interested in project management, health policy and legislative processes. Additionally, you will be curious, able to operate with agility and creativity, and be a team player. To succeed in this role, you will draw on an understanding of policy development and how it applies to health policy and veteran issues, or be able to quickly acquire this understanding.

  • Duties
  • Contribute to the currency, review and maintenance of relevant legislative instruments, including the Treatment Principles and cross-Government items;
  • Interpret legislation and policy to prepare initial drafts of policy advice to service Ministers, other departments, internal delivery areas and other internal and external parties in a timely way;
  • Work collaboratively with other team members to review and improve policy on access to DVA health care and health outcomes, and veteran homelessness and incarceration outcomes;
  • Contribute to research into health and social health policy and program issues and working with other team members to monitor new initiatives and industry developments;
  • Assist with the section's ongoing liaison with internal and external stakeholders via internal and external discussion forums, meetings and workshops, which may include providing secretariat support.
  • Eligibility
  • Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).
  • All applicants external to DVA offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a pre-engagement screening check, even if they have a security clearance. The screening check is conducted in accordance with the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework requirements.

Where a non-ongoing position is offered, the role will be filled for an initial specified term of up to 23 months.

A merit pool of suitable applicants may be created which may be used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies should they become available over the next 18 months.
