The Nurse Educator is responsible for the organisation, management and documentation of in-service education, formal training programs and other education sessions as required across the organisation to enable Cultura Residential to provide high quality care and services to its residents and home care consumers. This includes induction and orientation of new staff to the organisation’s policies and procedures and relevant skill sets. Induction includes introduction to Work Health and Safety.
This part time position is offered for 15 hours per week, with flexibility in hours of work.
Duties
- Work with managers and staff individually and collectively to identify education requirements within Residential.
- Develop user friendly practices to maintain existing, and initiate new, partnerships with education and training organisations.
- Clearly document education and / or training undertaken by individual staff using prescribed systems.
- Facilitate students / trainees who attend for placement as part of their formal course of training.
- Understand, comply with, and ensure staff compliance with essential legislation and policies.
- Identify and support staff emotional needs by working with managers and staff / volunteers.
- Ensure education and training records are available to authorised assessors and meet any reasonable requests.
- Initiate, manage, organise, record and evaluate the organisation’s annual mandatory in-service education program for all Residential staff, including Bella Chara.
- Organise and deliver additional practical education sessions and workshops for groups.
- Deliver snack / toolbox education sessions for residential staff.
- Foster a positive work culture that promotes ownership, commitment to best practice principles in service delivery and where all staff support each other in a respectful and courteous manner.
- Contribute to monitoring professional practice and reviewing the educational needs for individuals within the organisation’s continuous improvement framework, including regular data collection to identify skills gaps.
- Participate in program budgeting, as required.
- Ensure sufficient supplies and equipment are available to facilitate training.
- Ensure that a culture of dignity, privacy and confidentiality is maintained in all times.
- Ensure staff / volunteers for whom English is not the first language have equitable access to education / training.
- Participate in and encourage all staff / volunteers to attend required professional development activities to maintain and improve their skills
- Assist managers to access external training opportunities that will help staff manage any allocated portfolios of responsibility.
- Review and update policies and procedures
- Deliver Basic Life Support annual competency to Cultura staff.
Qualifications and Experience
Hold a relevant Bachelor qualification in Nursing and AHPRA registration.Hold a Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment (or equivalent).Demonstrated experience educating in an aged care and / or hospital setting.Demonstrated ability to network effectively with education and training service providers.Have clear written and verbal communication skills, including computer literacy (including keyboard skills, ability to learn to use new software programs, effective internet usage).Relevant post-graduate qualifications in nursing, gerontology, education or a related field.Have recent experience in, and awareness of, contemporary issues in residential and home services aged care and care of individuals with dementia.Understand education and training incentives / schemes as relevant to workers in the aged care industry.COVID19 vaccination within the last six months.Understand the migrant experience, with empathy and sensitivity to the needs of the elderly from different cultural backgrounds, and staff of different cultural backgrounds.Proficiency in languages other than English will be highly regarded.How to Apply
