About the role

The role of the First Nations Advanced Health Worker - Mental Health is to deliver high level cultural advice and professional and culturally specific support to First Nations peoples accessing the mental health service, including their family, carers, and social / cultural support networks.

The aim of the role is to achieve improved mental health outcomes for First Nations peoples accessing the mental health service, as per the objectives of the West Moreton Health First Nations Health Equity Strategy 2022 - 2025.

About you

  • High level interpersonal, communication, consultation and negotiation skills and ability to develop effective partnerships within the Health Service and external stakeholders.
  • Cultural lived experience and understanding of the cultural factors and histories that affect the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people today.
  • The ability to provide effective cultural support to First Nations peoples accessing community mental health services.
  • Ability to support multidisciplinary teams to improve their understanding of the Social, Emotional and Well-Being needs of First Nations consumers.
  • The appropriate clinical skills for the delivery of evidence-based health assessments, health promotion, education and illness prevention activities and primary health care services to First Nations peoples.
  • Mandatory Requirements
  • Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01 / 16
  • Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act of 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community.
