APPLICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION CLOSE AT MIDDAY ON FRIDAY, 11 JULY 2025 About us : The Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority (BGPA) is responsible for the management and protection of Kings Park and Botanic Garden and Bold Park, two of Perth's most significant and accessible natural areas, deeply valued by both residents and visitors.
Kings Park, covering 400 hectares in the heart of Perth, includes an 18-hectare State Botanic Garden that showcases over 3000 species of the State's unique flora and operates as a living research centre focused on ex-situ conservation.
Approximately two-thirds of the park is protected bushland, supporting around 320 native plant species, 80 bird species, 20 reptile species and over 300 species of fungi.
Bold Park, spanning 437 hectares, is the largest remaining bushland remnant on the Swan Coastal Plain in Perth's urban area.
It provides critical ecological habitat, with over 1,000 recorded species of plants, animals, and fungi, and plays a vital role as a recreational and conservation space for the community.
BGPA operates as a statutory authority within the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA).
The Authority is governed by a Board of Management and led by a Chief Executive Officer, who also holds the position of Director General of DBCA.

The opportunity : We are seeking a visionary and accomplished executive to lead as the Executive Director - BGPA, providing day-to-day leadership and strategic oversight of one of Western Australia's most iconic natural and cultural institutions.
With a workforce of over 150 staff spanning diverse areas such as scientific research, horticulture, conservation, infrastructure, environment, visitor experience, education, community engagement and commercial operations, this role offers a unique opportunity to enable BGPA as a leader in biodiversity and conservation horticulture within State Government.
As a key member of DBCA's Corporate Executive, you will represent BGPA at the highest levels, strengthening strong partnerships across government, industry, and the community to deliver lasting impact aligned with WA Government priorities.
The successful candidate will : Reporting to the CEO BGPA, you will : Lead strategic and operational management across BGPA's multidisciplinary portfolio.
Drive innovation, sustainability, and public value through science, conservation, horticulture, and infrastructure.
Represent BGPA across government, industry, and community sectors, advocating for WA's natural heritage and future-focused botanic science.
Champion work health and safety, good governance and continuous improvement in line with DBCA's leadership expectations and the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 (WA).
Deliver impactful partnerships that support the Government's broader conservation and tourism agenda.
Lead and oversee the negotiation and management of contracts, leases and licences with users or operators of facilities on BGPA's estate in accordance with government procurement standards and requirements, for the delivery of key projects, services and initiatives.
Identify and develop new income generating streams to maximise the BGPA's self-funding capacity.
Develop and maintain key relationships with government, research bodies, business and community organisations and delivery partners, including across national, state and local government organisations, to raise awareness and inform decision making on Government's conservation and tourism agenda.
