Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld), there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community.

About the Role

  • Inspire and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers through tailored education, information, referrals, and support to learn the skills and knowledge to build resilience for cultural, mental, and physical healthcare needs and to engage in their community.
  • Assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers to identify and achieve meaningful and culturally safe mental health recovery goals using recovery tools, techniques and lived experience.
  • Utilise group work skills in delivering support groups, psycho education programs, and participate in facilitating peer-based consumer support groups that have a focus on culturally responsive mental health care.
  • Model personal recovery, self-awareness, self-belief, self-advocacy, and hopefulness by sharing your own story of culture and recovery to inspire and instil confidence in others.
  • How to apply

A person who is not an Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander cannot be employed (on any basis) to perform the duties of an Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander identified role. Please provide the following information to the panel to assess your suitability :

  • Written assertion of Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander descent or provide documentary evidence attesting to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent.
  • A short written response (maximum 1-2 pages, dot points acceptable) on how your experience, abilities, knowledge and personal qualities would enable you to achieve the key attributes and responsibilities and meet the key skill requirements.
  • Your current CV or resume, including two referees.
