Job Title : Education Officer

Location : Canberra Rape Crisis Centre (CRCC)

Reports to : Policy and Education Manager

Position Type : Full-time

Level : MEA Award 6.3 ($110,000 plus super)

The Organisation The Canberra Rape Crisis Centre (CRCC) is a non-government, feminist organisation dedicated to eliminating sexual violence against women, children, young people, and men. CRCC provides crisis response, counselling, and practical support to victim survivors of sexual assault, sexual harassment, and childhood sexual abuse.

Our mission is to be a visible, active catalyst for social change through the provision of high-quality services and community education within a feminist framework.

Position Summary The Education Officer will be responsible for the design, development, and delivery of community education and training programs aimed at increasing awareness, understanding, and prevention of sexual violence. This role focuses on the creation of educational content, facilitation of training for diverse stakeholders, and collaboration with community partners to promote respectful relationships and informed responses to sexual assault.

This position plays a key role in helping CRCC deliver trauma-informed, inclusive, and evidence-based education aligned with our mission and values.

Key Responsibilities Design, plan, and deliver community education sessions and training on topics relating to sexual assault, consent, respectful relationships, and gender-based violence.

Tailor educational content and training delivery to suit different audiences, including schools, universities, workplaces, service providers, and community groups.

Ensure all educational programs are trauma-informed, inclusive, culturally safe, and consistent with current best practice and research.

Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to co-deliver or co-design programs where appropriate.

Respond to training requests, manage bookings, and maintain records of sessions delivered and participant feedback.

Contribute to the development of resources and materials that support CRCC's education and prevention efforts.

Participate in evaluation and continuous improvement of education and training offerings.

Stay informed on current research, trends, and issues in sexual violence prevention, and incorporate this knowledge into program content.

Attend relevant events, forums, and community activities to promote CRCC's education work.

Key Selection Criteria Strong commitment to feminist principles, social justice, and working within a human rights and trauma-informed framework.

Demonstrated experience in education or training development and facilitation, particularly in sensitive and complex areas such as sexual violence or gender-based violence.

High-level verbal communication and group facilitation skills, including the ability to present to varied audiences.

Ability to develop accessible, engaging, and evidence-based educational content and resources.

Demonstrated understanding of cultural safety, intersectionality, and inclusion, particularly in work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, LGBTQIA+ communities, and people with disabilities.

Ability to manage multiple priorities, respond to requests, and work independently and collaboratively.

Strong organisational, administrative, and record-keeping skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a small, supportive team.

Confidence using digital tools and presentation software (e.g., PowerPoint, Canva, Zoom).

Qualifications and Experience Tertiary qualification in education, social work, health, community development, social sciences, or a relevant field.

Minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar education or training role.

Experience working with people affected by sexual violence, or in gender-based violence prevention, is desirable.

Special Requirements This is a woman-only position under s 34 (1) of the Discrimination Act 1991.

Must hold a valid Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration.

Willingness to work flexible hours, including some after-hours and weekend work, to meet community and stakeholder needs.
