Marvel Stadium currently serves as the busiest multi-purpose stadium in the world, welcoming over two million patrons through its gates each year. As well as hosting over 40 AFL matches each season, the Stadium hosts other sporting codes as well as many memorable concerts for some of the world’s biggest stars, including Coldplay, Paul McCartney, P!NK and Oasis.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The vision at Marvel Stadium is to create “EXTRAordinary experiences for everyone every day”. The Stadium Workforce Manager reports to the Head of Stadium Operations and is responsible for managing the workforce planning team and a dynamic casual workforce across several disciplines including customer service, ticketing, guest experience and venue set up.

This role requires an experienced manager who operates with a level of calm confidence and maturity as they leverage strong and proven abilities managing customer service and workforce planning teams to success. This is an opportunity to join AFL’s leadership team at Marvel and have a direct impact on delivering exceptional guest experiences to our many visitors, through guiding a high performing, customer-centric permanent and casual workforce.

Your day-to-day includes expertly communicating expectations to the team, stakeholders, casual staff and leadership peers, keeping the wheels turning on major stadium events and activations, while ensuring every shift is set up for success. You’re the go-to – when you look around the stadium at a football game or concert and see hundreds of our staff showing up to do their thing, that’s you and your team who’ve made that happen!

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF

Below is a list of key tasks and responsibility areas taken on day to day and more broadly in this management role. If you find yourself nodding and can tick the box when it comes to experience with the majority of these, we’d love to see your application!

Lead the workforce planning team to schedule resourcing for every stadium event, ensuring the casual workforce is engaged, well-prepared, and delivers outstanding stadium events, programs, and activations.

Engage with our casual workforce, in particularly team leaders, positively and regularly to ensure service excellence is maintained and recognised.

Take a continuous improvement approach through regular review of performance and process and collaboration with team members on changes.

Support and deliver initiatives that recognise and reward workforce contribution, tenure, and performance; celebrate wins and success regularly

Oversee the design and management of efficient rostering solutions, working closely with internal stakeholders to optimise workforce effectiveness, including budgets.

Ensure accurate and timely completion of workforce paperwork to support reporting, weekly payroll processing and HR requirements.

Use data and insights to identify trends, inform training needs, and forecast future workforce requirements.

Be hands-on during most event days, managing staff deployment, performance, and responding to any on-the-day issues.

Coach and develop your team to build capability and drive consistent, high-quality results.

Lead the team to manage recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention strategies to build a strong, engaged casual workforce.

Meet and engage with multiple stakeholders regularly to foster excellent working relationships and ensure goals, expectations and challenges are managed well

You’ve got 5+ years’ experience in a similar role and are ready to step into something bigger, bolder, and more aligned with your passions.

You’re a trusted and dedicated manager of people and work / projects; your team know they can depend on you for honest and helpful feedback and to act as their north star on decision-making

You enjoy using smart systems (like Deputy or similar) to streamline and support great outcomes.

You’re a natural organiser — juggling multiple services and shifting priorities with calm and confidence.

You understand why documenting what matters is important in this type of role and use data to tell the story and guide decisions.

You’re all about developing others — but also confident in having the tough conversations when needed.

You know your way around EBA environments and collaborate well with unions and HR teams.

You communicate clearly and consistently with all levels — from casuals to execs - written, spoken and in the room.

You take safety seriously and model it every day.

You build great relationships quickly and lead with empathy and clarity.

You have experience in previous roles influencing and negotiating to get mutually agreeable outcomes and can flex this skill as needed; with staff, stakeholders and providers.

You work fast – you can prioritise and shift gears to solve on the fly as well as strategically plan long term goals that align with the team and organisation.

You bring a mindset of service excellence to everything you do.
