Job description

The ACT Government Communication Unit is currently seeking a Media Adviser to join our team.

The ACT Government Communication Unit provides a holistic communication and engagement service to ACT Government Ministers. The team supports the communication of ACT Government announcements across multiple channels, working closely with ACT Government Directorates on how to best engage with the Canberra community.

We are seeking an individual who is passionate about Canberra and wants to be involved in issues that impact the city. We have a bold agenda over the next few years, which includes the start of construction on the biggest infrastructure project in our city's history - light rail to Woden.

Media advisers in our team are responsible for the day-to-day management of traditional media for the ACT Executive. Media advisers issue media alerts, media releases and media statements and are the primary media contact for Government Ministers. Successful applicants will be required to establish and maintain productive relationships with both local and national journalists to support the Government's objectives.

Successful applicants will have the ability to perform in a high-pressure environment with competing deadlines and priorities. High level oral and written communication skills is essential. Applicants will be required to demonstrate prior experience in managing sensitive and confidential issues.

  • Eligibility / Other Requirements
  • A tertiary qualification in communication, arts or journalism is required for these roles, as well as a minimum of three years experience in a communication or journalism position. An understanding of the roles and functions of the ACT Government is preferred, but not essential.
