The role

We are seeking an experienced Chemist to join our dynamic laboratory team and ensure the delivery of precise, high-quality results through rigorous analytical processes and adherence to quality standards. In this role, you will conduct sample analyses, operate and maintain advanced equipment, troubleshoot issues, and manage daily workloads to meet client deadlines. Responsibilities include reviewing data, maintaining LCMSMS instrumentation, preparing standards, analyzing samples within holding times, maintaining orderly records, identifying anomalies, and managing stock levels, while also contributing to housekeeping and team training initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a relevant tertiary qualification in Science preferably Chemistry, at least three years of experience in a similar laboratory environment, and expertise in LCMSMS instrumentation. Previous experience in PFAS analysis is essential. Strong numerical and laboratory skills, attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to work independently, under pressure, and as part of a team are essential. The day to day

• To ensure that quality results are reported using sound analytical processes and correct QC interpretation in a safe and timely manner
• Ensuring that all laboratory analyses, determinations, calculations, preparations, appraisal of samples and associated tasks are conducted in accordance with ALS quality procedures
• Displaying competence in the operation and maintenance of equipment or instruments used in their work areas
• Conducting scheduled in-house instrument, equipment maintenance, verification and troubleshooting associated issues
• Ensuring samples are analysed within holding times or highlight the situation to their supervisor when this is not possible
• Prioritising daily workloads
• Ensuring that clients’ requested turnaround times are met or highlight the situation to their supervisor when this is not possible
• Highlighting anomalies in results, sample type and sample behaviour to their supervisor
• Identifying and instigating repeats on samples showing anomalous results where sample type and sample behaviour is normal
• Reporting results where sample and QC data meets method requirements and acceptance criteria
• Ensuring appropriate comments are made in association with any anomalous results, samples, QC, holding time or preservation breaches
• Performing required housekeeping duties
• Controlling consumable stock required for the performance of tests
• Preparing standards & samples for analysis
• Undertake ongoing skills training to perform other tasks and the training of other staff as required
• Maintaining all workbooks, raw data printouts, computer filing systems and any other hard or soft-copy information in an orderly and auditable manner
• Conducting other tasks as directed by their supervisor
